COMPETITION WEEK
Waking up on Monday seemed easier than normal. Whether it was the adrenaline that came along with knowing this was our last official day of practice or the fear of being late, I was up ready to go. We got to practice and began our normal warmup routines. Mascots joined our practice and showed their skits they would be performing this weekend as well! We did a few full-outs with the cheer team supporting us and then it was time to head out.
There is a lot of preparation that comes along with gearing up for competition, and getting ahead on schoolwork can be one of the most annoying things. Not missing deadlines and being transparent with every professor is key to success. Tuesday was filled with full dedication to studying and completing assignments.
Wednesday arrived sooner than expected, and to say that I was stressed was a severe understatement. Travel days are always chaotic with making sure everything is packed up and ready to go. I woke up early, packed, and headed to school to complete some work before report time. When we got to Florida, we settled in our rooms and went to sleep.
Thursday morning arrived quicker than expected, and after team breakfast it was time to head to the convention center for practice! We began warming up and then headed to our mat time shortly after. It was a phenomenal practice and we were all feeling excited to compete on Friday! We came back to the hotel with an Olive Garden feast waiting for us! We had team dinner at the hotel and continued to finish up some homework and wind down to prepare our minds for the big weekend.
FRIDAY IS HERE!! COMPETITION DAY!! We took the floor around 9:30am, and had the performance of a lifetime. We were competing amongst the best of the best and had to show up and show out. We then had a break and completed our other routine around 6:30pm. This was an intense day of competition, and it was so fun getting to see what the other colleges have been preparing all year.
Saturday was the last day of competition, and after we competed, we had results around 10:00pm. We performed the best we ever had this day, and truly made our mark beating out top programs such as Arizona State and Kansas State. It felt so good to be ranked 2nd in the nation!
Sunday was Easter, and it was spent all day at the parks in Disney World. It was a fantastic day to celebrate all our accomplishments. Competition is the one time we truly get to represent Baylor by ourselves, and the job was well done.
